The presentation was made during the company’s annual management meeting at its headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. Unfortunately, the two were unable to attend the ceremony due to Meade’s work schedule, but Sue Otten, activity director at Life Care Center of New Market, was present to accept the award on their behalf.
The couple volunteers each Friday. Meade greets all residents and associates with a smile while serving bowls of hand-scooped ice cream. At the same time, his wife, Velda, pampers residents with hand massages and manicures. They have given more than 20,000 hours of service to the facility.
“God bless them for all they give of themselves to the residents at Life Care Center of New Market,” said Otten. “They are truly two lovely and wonderful people.”
Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, shared: “The kindnesses that Meade and Velda always give say a lot about their character and their love for other people. Their smiles, their greetings, their acts of service touch our residents and staff members in remarkable ways. The world needs more people like them.”
The Volunteer Group of the Year Award is presented annually and selected from the best of every region and division within Life Care. Criteria include active, ongoing and hands-on service and raising community awareness of the Life Care center.
